OUTSTANDING MATERIAL FOR PRODUCTION WRAITHS.

In releasing the material for the 100 sets, we indicated that certain parts were suitable for the first six cars but were not sufficiently tested to justify ordering 100 sets of material. In view of your request, pointing out the need for you to have as much released as possible, we have gone over the outstanding points and the position is as follows:-

(1) Crankshaft and Crankcase.

These are all clear with the exception of the method of retaining oil in the rear bearing. It is therefore possible to completely tool up both the crankcase and the crankshaft with the exception of these points.

For the first six cars we are using design ? but it is possible that it may demand a somewhat more elaborate scheme incorporating ECD.238. We are therefore working on a third scheme which may clear the difficulty, which consists of ventilating the clutch pit in a different manner which in conjunction with the scheme on the first six cars would then, we hope, be beyond criticism.

(2) Valve Springs.

We see no reason for releasing these at the moment as designs are being got out, and it is necessary to get sufficient general work to justify one or the other of the designs.

(3) Timing Gears and Cam Balancer.

There is some doubt as to the durability of the unhardened gear teeth running in conjunction with Fabroil. We therefore require more experience before we can release this proposal. The tools for this can be released subject to the one issue.

In regard to the cam balancer, we wish to replace this by scheme ECD.402 This particular scheme is already instructed and we are anxious to fit it in either case.

(4) Inlet pipes, Carburetter Silencer and Petrol Drain Pipes.

These should be released for tools only, to the design fitted to 26.G.V1. which is being produced to E.CD.415
