VANDERVELL BEARINGS.

We thank you for your memo ref: Les/FS.{F. Steele}3/B.22.7.40, upon which we would make the following observations:

Order No.9079. date 18.1.40.

To the best of our knowledge the bearings on this order were a repetition of similar bearings produced for us previously by Vandervell. The question is, whether the tool charge on this latest order covers the bearings previously produced?

Order No.17746. date 2.4.40.

On this order we would expect to pay part cost of new tools, because we had had considerable correspondence with Vandervell to determine just what modifications we could make to our engines to use their standard type of main bearing, for which they had quoted 22/6d per set on production orders. We note, therefore, that for 12 sets of main bearings we are charged £69.18.9. Does this charge include tools?

The same applies to big end bearings on this same order. This is a standard bearing for which they have quoted 11/- per set of six bushes (on a production order), and now charge nearly £3. 0. 0. per set, excluding tool charges.

Would you say that this difference between a production order and an order for an odd number of sets was in the right proposition?

Regarding the 48 conn-rod bearings in Clevite and Tri-metal mentioned in the last paragraph of your memo, these were ordered by the Aero division.
