Thank you for your memos Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}4/AP.I.2.38 and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}6/MH.{M. Huckerby}5.2.38. The first, regarding the 40° cams has already been dealt with and reported upon. We are glad to note in the second that the 3.1/2" useful pedal travel is quite in order. We have taken advantage of this to make a new slot in the pedal stem, bringing it 5/8" nearer to the boards. This makes it easier to change the foot from the accelerator to the brake and still gives 5" travel before the pedal comes on the carpets. Do you agree to this ? If so, perhaps the drawings could be revised to incorporate the extra notch. The setting of the rods appears to be in order. The rear bell cranks are just clear of their off stops when the brakes are off. It is with the rods set in this manner that there appears barely sufficient thread in the yokes and slotted links between the servo and the bell cranks. We are fitting a pull-on spring to the rod from the servo T lever to the rear equaliser to try and overcome the very bad servo judders experienced, and will report further on its effects. We noted on the road that with the front brakes four notches out of adjustment, there was a distinct loss of front braking. This is due to a major foul between the yoke which connects the front brake rod to the servo T lever and the new gearbox crossmember. We have cut the crossmember away to clear. This should receive immediate design attention. ----------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} Ivan M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Waller | ||
