We have been troubled with the exhaust pipe fouling the bottom of the hole in the forward branch of the cruciform through which it passes. The pipe has dropped to this position during the running and it is due to the split type joints used. There are no less than three of these joints between the downtake pipe and the first/main suspension bracket. Each section of pipe between these joints is cranked, so that any rotation in the joints entirely alters the lay of the pipe and was the cause of the foul experienced. We have re-centralised the pipe in the hole by loosening off the clamps on the split joints and rotating the sections of pipe relative to one another and tightening up again when the required clearance was obtained. We have no doubt that it will drop again in time. With the flanged type joints, this could not occur. No trouble of this kind was experienced when the car was last in France. When we also take into account the fact that the sliding joints are not gastight, we must admit that we have introduced an unsatisfactory feature. -------------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M.
