FAULTS REPORTED.

ATTENTION GIVEN.

Bentley con rods. Bad bedding of bearings in housings of rods. This was a complaint of replacement rods.

RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} has taken the matter up in production and a promise of better work. It should not be necessary to have to file the bearings to fit the housing. This is being taken up with RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}

Joint washers for water pump flange joint in sea-cork.

This has proved unsatisfactory in service and no further supplies are to be used.

Excessive oil consumption on the Continent.

Tests carried out showed a satisfactory improvement with the fitting of a heavier pressure scraper ring. The cars also automatically become better with mileage. Present production with improved piston fit and scraper rings are a big improvement, and recent high speed test gave 1300 M.P.G.

Rear axle complaints.
Knock from Driving dogs.
Failure of Driving dogs.
Noisy axle.
Oil leaks.

The driving dogs with increased area in the radius made in S/HCH are now in production and Depots are fitting them for replacements. This also applies to cars with fractured driving dogs.

Noisy axles chiefly due to incorrect setting of the pinion, due to faulty fitting of the pinion bearings, has been taken up with the Works.

The design of radius, etc. has been altered to facilitate correct fitting of the bearings and to give the necessary nip required. Depots have received concise instructions regarding the set-up of the bearings.

The oil leaks from axle tube flange joints is being dealt with by increasing the number of bolts from 12 to 18. This comes on in K.186 series.

Bentley Front Axle control brackets. The slot for the ball pin being too large.

Faulty machining of the slots was reported to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} on new brackets received from the Works. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Cy. has assured us that inspectors will check all stages of machining.

Brakes Squeaks.

The present spring fitted to the damper shoe is too highly rated, and is not of much value. We at Kingsbury are tyring out a larger dia. and less rated spring.
