Dear Mr. Robotham, Many thanks for your letter of the 18th inst., and I would say that I was quite serious in the letter which I wrote to Fiat - and do not indulge in "leg pulls." In answer to item (1) in which you say that Rolls Royce have not run a test on an Aero Engine, you will find on page 25, in the Journal of the Institution of Automobile Engineers - Session 1937-1938, a report which specifically mentions a test on a Rolls Royce "Kestrel" Aero Engine centre main bearing. Surely this is evidence of test. Regarding the point that you have not run the bearing with as much as 50% reduction in width as compared with lead bronze, we are sorry that in our letter to Fiat's we mentioned lead bronze instead of babbit. We are putting this point right with Fiat's and regret that the error should have slipped in. Concerning the second item in your letter, I was definitely given to understand by the late Murray Jamieson of E.R.A. that what I stated regarding racing in South Africa was definitely true, and I merely repeated the information given to me.
