1020a EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}24/JH. 22nd. November, 1938. Messrs. Wellworthy Piston Rings Ltd., Lymington, Hants. For the attention of Mr. Blackitn. Dear Sirs, We are enclosing herewith a communication we have received from Messrs. Citroen of Paris. You will notice that they suggest leaving surplus metal on their rods and crank, in order that they may arrive at correct final dimensions in accordance with our required clearances etc. If you will get in touch with them direct, you may be able to find the most suitable way of fitting them out with trial bearings. You should mention the importance of a clean engine especially when in the course of erection, also that they should use a filter of the Tecalemit type through which all the oil passes while on the test bed. In addition to this, they should fit a bye-pass filter, in their case, a Fram, to be obtained from the Fram depot in Paris. This answers their query about the filter. Further to the use of their bye pass filter, it should be made clearm that a topping is taken from the main pressure line and can be returned from the filter straight to the crankcase, and that only a very small percentage of the total oil supply passes through this filter. Hoping this information will enable you to go ahead. We should be interested to hear the development of this job at a later date. Yours faithfully, | ||
