X.2628. - RE SPLIT AND SOLID SPRINGS. X.963. X.1295. X.3461.

We are carrying on with the tests making comparisons between the split and solid springs. So far all our tests go to prove we are doing right in not splitting any more springs.

Tests on springing are the most difficult tests on carry out on the car. Our cars are expected to cover the range between a town carriage and a racing car. In endeavouring to find the best compromise to fulfil this, it is possible that we err towards the one or the other. As pointed out by Mr. Royce, it is practically impossible to spring a car for all conditions of road and speed.

We have looked up the experimental reports on the original test carried out on split springs and find that there was a definite advantage found in the riding of a car fitted with split springs compared with the solid springs. These test were carried out by Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and Mr. Ionides. The springs were changed over on the same car several times, Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} gained with the split springs. One definite advantage is emphatic of the advantage/was thatin going round a corner fairly fast with the solid springs, the back axle chattered on the road. With the split springs, this did not occur. The query one raises, is whether the test were carried
