The foundry have approached us with regard to slight modifications they require to the bottom tappets EW.1467 and to which we see no objection. If you are also in agreement with these modifications, which are as follows will you please instruct that the details be modified. (1) .089 dia. hole drilled in the base of the spherical when drilled to a depth of .075 as at present runs into the chilled sections of the hardened face. This would render the drilling of the hole to this depth difficult. As the only object of this drilling is to ensure that the base of the spherical does not stand proud the drill need only just enter to the extent of its tip and would then be clear of the hardened section. (2) The limit of the inside bore which is being cast to size to be increased from 1.0625 to 1.0625. +5 +10 (3) The Brinell of the hardened face is given as 530. A limit is required for this and is suggested that a range from 520 - 550 be given. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
