Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}/C.Lee. 1/OH.23.8.43. Interim Report on our small cars at Clan Foundry i.e. Vauxhall, Austin 10 HP, Austin 8 HP, Lancia and Studebaker. We have now run a considerable mileage since our last report Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}1/SW.30.5.41. on the small cars in our possession. We give below some comments and failures of the above cars. STUDEBAKER. This car has now run 46,200 miles and has received a fair amount of general maintenance, it is however, still a remarkably good car, the ride and performance being particularly outstanding. Speedo Reading. Carburetter (Zenith Type) dismantled & cleaned at 13,632 miles " " " " " 21,973 " " " " " " 30,778 " " " " " " 38,720 " Big end bearings failed No.1, 2 and 5. 14,249 " Trafficator N.S. Failed 17,231 " Rear brakes oiled up, oil drain holes .125" drilled in axle tubes, and since then have had no further trouble. 26,472 " Sparking Plugs (type Champion 8.C.F.R.) failed, new set of same type fitted. 28,365 " Front Suspension Overhaul. New triangle lever complete with bushes, shackle pins, needle rollers etc. renewed. 33,721 " --continued-- | ||
