From the above it will be seen that the contact points will run at least 10,000 miles before trimming is necessary but it will be advisable to clean the surfaces and readjust the gap say every 5000 miles to obtain and ensure immunity from misfires.
In our experience these points will run 20,000 miles before trimming is required providing the point surfaces are bedded and correctly lined up initially. If the points are not carefully lined up in the first place, a lip forms on the edge of the points due to unequal wear and this would undoubtedly lead to irregular ignition.
This state of affairs we fear would happen if we allowed customers to fit their own replacement points.
We therefore suggest recommending when necessary, say after 10,000 miles, that the existing points be levelled up with a carborundum stone and new points fitted when required by our own repair staff when cars come in for repairs.
