BUICK 50-60-90 SHOP MANUAL, 1934 Page 25 The regulator may be removed from the engine for servicing as follows: Remove water pump bracket cap and loosen lower water pump hose connection. Loosen upper oil temperature regulator pipe fitting nuts and let drop down on pipes. Remove upper and lower regulator attaching screws. Then remove the oil temperature regulator and water pump as an assembly from the engine. The oil temperature regulator can then be removed from the water pump by loosening one of the connecting hose clamps. A five-gallon container, see Fig. 23. Fig. 23. Five-Gallon Container Submerge regulator assembly in Benzol with oil fittings up for at least 5 minutes. Remove regulator and attach oil gun on inlet, see Fig. 24. Replace regulator in Benzol and pump vigorously for several minutes to remove dissolved material. Remove regulator from Benzol and disconnect oil gun. Blow out both oil and water chambers, using from 50 to 80 pounds air pressure, see Figs. 25 and 26. Fig. 24. Using Pump Disassembly of Oil Temperature Regulator Remove cover screws and bolts as shown in Figs. 27 and 28. Insert screwdriver between cover and body, near a screw hole, [ 34-50 1253920 [ 34-60—34-90 1256853 [ 34-50 1253489 [ 34-60—34-90 1253738 [ 34-50 1254103 [ 34-60—34-90 1253739 Fig. 22. Oil Gun The equipment necessary for cleaning the regulator is as follows: Oil gun of ½ pint or more capacity having nozzle and tapped for ⅛” pipe thread as shown in Fig. 22. Two oil gun connections made up by brazing oil regulator pipes to ⅛” x 4” pipe nipples, and adding the sleeve and nut as shown in Fig. 22. Cleaning fluid to be used is “Benzol” or “Coal Tar Naphtha.” Two gallons of fluid being sufficient to clean four oil temperature regulators. The Benzol or Coal Tar Naphtha can be obtained from a chemical, paint, or drug supply house. Do not use gasoline, benzine or naphtha supplied at gasoline stations. | ||
