RE RATIONALISED CAR PROGRAMME.

We feel that we should devise a system of nomenclature for chassis units which will briefly describe them, and yet not tie them to any particular chassis or car.

The engine units have been so treated already, with the exception of the 4-cyl. 1.44 1.to 1.2 litre, which is named after a chassis, viz. Myth. Corresponding names to B.80, B.60 etc. for engines need to be devised for the other standardised units, e.g. the two gearboxes, the two axles etc.

Likewise we suggest that each unit should have its individual specification. When building a specification of any of the various possible cars in the range, instead of specifying each unit in detail, only the specification index of that unit would be called for.

This system would ensure that any alteration made to a unit's specification would be applied automatically to all models employing that unit.

We would be glad to have your views on this proposal and suggestions for unit nomenclature.
