Tite flex DIRECTIONS FOR APPLYING AND SOLDERING COUPLINGS TO "TITEFLEX METAL HOSE." FIG. 1 SOLDER SOLDER SOLDER TITEFLEX METAL HOSE is finished with a braided wire covering specially designed and fastened to the diameter of the tubing. This braided wire is soldered to the hose at the end of each length before leaving our works. SLOT FOR HACKSAW FIG. 2. First:—Measure the tubing to the required length, spot solder and cut, Fig. 1. To spot solder apply flux and either pour melted solder over the braided tubing or flow the solder on with a soldering iron. To cut the hose properly, construct a wooden block with a V shaped groove in the top, in which the hose is placed. Holding the tubing in place, it may be cut with a hacksaw guided by a vertical slot in the block, Fig. 2. Second:—Tin the inside of the nipple, and the part of the coupling over which it is to fit. Then place union nut in position and place nipple on coupling. Place the complete coupling B over an aluminium plug A, Fig. 3. Applying the heat in the form of a pencil flame to the coupling B, melt the solder into the coupling. Fill the coupling about half full of solder. Dipping the end of the Titeflex tube C into flux, place it over the aluminium pin, and push the hose down into the melted solder. If the solder has cooled it may be necessary to apply more heat to the coupling. The tube should go completely down to the shoulder of the coupling, being held there until the solder sets. Make sure that the aluminium plug "A" is sufficiently long, having it extend one-half inch above the end of the coupling, so as to prevent the solder from closing the opening in the hose. The aluminium plug must be of the same diameter as the bore of the Titeflex, so as to completely stop up the end of the tube. FIG. 3 C B A BRAID SOLDER APPLY HEAT Third:—With the plug still in position, complete joint by soldering braid to coupling. ALWAYS APPLY HEAT TO THE COUPLING AND NEVER APPLY THE FLAME DIRECT ON THE BRAIDED TUBE. Titeflex is not Indestructible. It must be handled with reasonable care. Avoid twisting, excessive bending, rubbing or chafing. When fitting connect both ends finger tight and use two spanners when tightening. Where banjo ends are fitted (Solex and Zenith) fit these ends first. All long pipes should be clipped or otherwise supported to prevent rubbing or chafing.
