1339 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/MH.{M. Huckerby}5.6.39. With regard to your query as to what we get out of tyres, following on memo Roy.{Sir Henry Royce}5/PB.26.5.39, we attach a copy of memo Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les,4/ER.12.4.39 which was sent to Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} and which contained a summary of the true position. It will be seen that neither the India nor the Dunlop 4-ply quoted by Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} can possibly be used because both failed on Continental tests. The cheapest 6-ply is India which is 4/- per tyre more than the Avon. Unless Roy{Sir Henry Royce}'s memo was, therefore, intended to be intentionally misleading, we do not understand why he gave these figures. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
