We want these to be accurately determined in Derby by means
of a model. The tubes which carry the valve push rods
through the head should be tried in monel metal with a view
to avoiding corrosion.
Referring again to the rocker mechanism this is
arranged in two groups, one group embracing cylinders 1, 2
and 3, and the other group embracing cylinders 4, 5 and 6.
Each group is provided with a dowel on the central bracket
and each end bracket of each group is provided with a tongue
engaging with a groove machined in the head.
The stud holes of all brackets except the central
ones of each group should be made .062 clear on the diameter.
With these provisions each valve rocker group should go into
its correct place with certainty and without trouble.
It will be as well to mention that the valve push
rods slope in the side elevation as well as in the end ele-
vation, their centres at the top being further apart by .2"
at the top than at the bottom relative to each cylinder.
