Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for yours of March 2nd, and are pleased to note you are arranging for a set of our Shock Absorbers to be fitted to one of your cars. Immediately we receive particulars of the lever arm and connecting link required, we will put these in hand.

We can of course stiffen up the shaft and the serrations for the lever fixing for the experimental set, but this would imply that in the event of you adopting our shock absorbers, the production set would also be stiffer, thus making it an entirely special shock absorber (due to the valve gear, special shaft, and special case), and we shall therefore be increasing the price considerably, and we understand that the object of your considering our shock absorber was to obtain the advantage of our large production to reduce your shock absorber prices.

We therefore suggest that you should try a set experimentally with the standard shaft, and if this does not give any trouble on the road due to deflection or to fracture, this would be the line to follow in order to use our standard parts.

An alternative is to take the next size shock absorber known as our "RLC", a sample of which we are sending you under separate cover. If you do not consider this size and weight prohibitive, this would give you an advantage of a production shock absorber with an ample factor of safety.
