COPY. THOS. FIRTH & SONS. LIMITED. NORFOLK WORKS, SHEFFIELD. 13th April, 1926. Ref. Spring Dept. HWP/EFS/309. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your Order No. 54469 of the 9th inst. for two special Front Springs 40/50 HP. Experimental Chassis to your Sketch - enclosure No. 122 - and note that you now require the deflection to be increased to 4.65". In order to comply with this, we consider it necessary that the mainplate thickness be further reduced and also the number of plates increased. We propose the following grouping of plates, and would like to know if you have any criticisms before we proceed to manufacture. "Mainplate thickness to be .21", followed by 10 plates .20" thick, and 4 plates .19 thick." These 13 plate springs as proposed would give a stress the same as the two 1200 lbs Front Springs which we have in hand to your Order 54248 of 27.3.26. We should be pleased if you would let us know by telephone to-morrow if you agree with our proposal. Yours faithfully, THOS. FIRTH & SONS LIMITED. | ||
