Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY..............Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1245 Sr/Crn4/4.II.37. CONFIDENTIAL. Waller- What are your views Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Chateauroux. ----------- Sometime ago, we believe that there was a question of appointing somebody from Derby to proceed to Chateauroux to attend to office matters. It has occurred to us that it might be a good solution to allow us to keep Mr Behnan on our staff, as at the present moment we can employ him permanently. In fact, unless you are able to send a suitable office man from Derby when your mechanics come over from time to time, we are afraid that we shall have to ask you to be good enough not to count upon Behnan in the future, and we could then perhaps obtain the services of a clerk over here. On the other hand, this latter suggestion will not be very easy, in view of the fact that in the past you have not given any remuneration whatsoever to the Chateauroux office man when your mechanics were actually away from Chateauroux. If we may say so, this arrangement does not seem to be quite fair. Anyhow, we are taking up this matter with you, with the primary object of asking you to be good enough to release Behnan, so that he can become a permanent member of our staff, and secondly in the opinion that we are possibly solving a small problem. We would add that this suggestion comes direct from us, and although we know that Behnan would be glad to be transferred to us, he as yet knows nothing of the matter. Sr [Signature] | ||
