Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}23/KW.9.6.36. Detonation Tests. We have now completed a series of tests on detonations on both 25/30 H.P. and Bentley cars, using turbulent and non-turbulent type cylinder heads, and the following lists and curves are the results obtained. Shell No.1 petrol was used for all tests. A curve is shown for comparative performance figures on the Bentley from 10-70 M.P.H. We have not been able to reproduce quite the same detonation curve as shown in our report Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}20/KW.7.4.36, but we attribute this to the much better weather conditions under which the last tests have been run. The difference between the detonating characteristics of the Delco and R.R. ignition distributors has been carefully checked, but at present we have no explanation. The difference is not sufficient to be of appreciable importance. | ||
