To NA{Mr Nadin} ) FROM R EFC) LE CANADELHenry Royce's French residence. /632 R3/M27.2.28. RECD. & DESPATCHED FROM WW 1.3.28. c. to BJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Mr. Bentley of Royce Ltd. RE INDUCTION MOTORS OF UNITY POWER FACTOR FYNN-WEICHSEL DESIGN. X.632. Many thanks for yours dated 21/2/28. which I read with great interest. It seems in short a combined synchronous and induction motor, and is very clever indeed. Such motors might pay for the extra cost and care in running in the case of RR. Works, if we were charged by current x voltage independent of power factor, but one cannot see that the saving of idle current in the wiring, etc. due to the lower than unit power factor, would pay the user for the extra first cost and trouble that might arise from the continuous current commutator. I send the printed matter to Mr. Fowler Clarke for his confirmation, or otherwise, of my views. Regarding Royce Ltd. I fear that for their crane work, and the small amount of general work they get, it would not pay them to make anything more costly and complicated than the ordinary slip ring machine. Thank you very much indeed for your, and Mr. Allen's trouble in this matter. It is very nearly a real good thing, but I fear the extra parts would be costly and troublesome. Will Mr. Clarke kindly send the pamphlet on to Mr. Bentley, of Royce Ltd. Trafford Park, Manchester. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
