Instructions for treatment of Clutch.

I give below a short article on the treatment of our fabric lined cone clutch, which I hope gives all the information required. As pointed out previously an experiment is being put in hand to improve the oil retaining properties which should cause the clutch to require less attention as regards lubrication.

When a new fabric lining is fitted to a clutch it requires oiling with engine oil rather frequently as the fabric absorbs the oil until it becomes saturated. Until this state of saturation is reached it is advisable to prop the clutch out at night when the car is standing. All this is done on new cars while they are on test, therefore it is not necessary to prop out the clutch over night on cars after they have been delivered.

Periodically the clutch will require a little oil injected by means of a syringe through one of the large holes in the clutch cone. The time at which this will be necessary will vary with the amount of use which the clutch has had, therefore it is advisable to examine the state of lubrication about once a week. This can be done by looking downward through one of the large holes in the clutch cone. If the bottom of the inside of the clutch
