RE SIX "CONDOR" EXPERIMENTAL ENGINES

X.3254

The experimental work still to be done before we are in a state to produce 100 "Condors" is as follows:-

1. Bottom half Crankcase. We consider this is the most unsatisfactory part of the whole engine. There is no
X.2055. doubt that more scrap has taken place on this part than on any other and it still appears to be in a very unsatisfactory position.

2. Connecting Rods. From the test we have made on the Z-cylinder engine, we hope we shall have no more trouble
X.2059. with this part as long as the standard of whitemetalling is kept up.

3. Epicyclic Gear. The latest .55 reduction gear with the friction controlled sunwheel is being fitted to experimental
X.3318 engine. We do not anticipate that we shall have any serious
X.3389. trouble with this. We have still to test and prove the .66 reduction gear. The parts for this are practically complete.

4. Electric and Hand Starter. These parts have to be completed.
X.1876. The machining of these parts is 50% completed.

5. Camshaft Casings. These are to have flexible connections -
X.2596. the design for this is not completed but it is not a big job.
