R.R. 235A (500 T) (S.D. 408. 28-4-17.) Bm. 2/156/15. To EH. from BY/RB.{R. Bowen} c. EFC. 18th April - 1918. BY/RB{R. Bowen}8/T18418. X 3289B RE CRANKSHAFT TORSION TESTS. Please receive herewith one blueprint of scheme 291. This scheme shews rig and test pieces for making static torsional tests on our crankshaft journals, owing to the incapacity for large testing this is reduced in scale of 1 to 3.6, but otherwise the test pieces are exactly comparable in shape to our crankshafts. Will you kindly have a set of these things made for testing. This should include - (1) Adapting Piece, long. 1 off. " " , short 1 " Lining Bar 1 " Keys. 1 " each ( 2 in all) and also the following test pieces:- (2) 2 off each of a.{Mr Adams} b. c. & d, type as drawn and two tensile test pieces. A sketch is made shewing how these test pieces should be cut from a 2" by 4" bar. As regards material, these test pieces should be made from nickel chrome crankshaft steel, which should be heated in a bar to the same condition as we use on our crankshaft, and then after heat treating these test pieces should be cut from the bar as per sketch. In this connection we have made arrangements for Messrs. Vicker's to supply us with a special bar of this steel 2" x 4" section by 3 foot 6" long, which should be here any day now. Will Mr Clark kindly issue an Exp. No for this BY/RB.{R. Bowen} | ||
