1152 To Hdy.{William Hardy} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}J/MH.{M. Huckerby}30.6.38. Findings on Change Speed Mechanisms unaffected by rotational hysteresis in engine mounting. (1) Gate inside box. (a) If this touches the pendulum metal to metal there are rattles at 3000 r.p.m. (26.G.VI). (b) Location for 1st. speed on 26.G.VI depends on exterior reverse stop. This will not do. (c) Only possible reverse stop is set up spring on end of change speed shaft. (A la{L. A. Archer} Minx). ) Exterior gate. (a) Sideways width of selector cups must be enough to allow for max. movement of engine. (b) Engine should be prevented from excessive oscillation during freak clutch judders by hard rubber stops that do not touch under normal conditions.
