FOR ATTENTION OF MR. CHANDLER.

Dear Sirs,

We are in receipt of your letter of the 30th ult. with regard to broken Pressure Plates which you have experienced on two 11" Clutches used on your test bed. We have now received the broken pressure plates and are arranging to have these tested thoroughly by our Chemist just as quickly as possible, and on receipt of his report we will contact with you.

We note that you have retained a portion of one of these plates for test yourselves, and we shall be able to compare the results obtained by our two independant checks.

With regard to the two castings being from the same batch, we should not think this is probable, as one of the clutches was produced in March, 1938 and the other in December of the same year.

In passing however, we would say that pressure plates made from the same batches of castings from which these two were produced are in service with our other customers and we have had no complaint from any of them of pressure plates breaking in service.

As mentioned on the 'phone we have a method of identifying batches of pressure plates as they are received at these Works by dabs of different coloured paint, but, of course, as all pressure plates are enamelled before sending to you, this washes out our means of identification.

Contd....
