Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 400 fil HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} BENTLEY III AND 50 CHASSIS. We give below for your consideration certain points which have been raised in connection with the above. Ignition Distributor E.CD.515. With a view to simplifying this section we shall be glad if you will kindly give consideration to a scheme whereby the distributor could be assembled as a complete unit in a similar manner to the Delco. This suggestion will enable the distributor base and the four countersunk screws to be deleted, in addition to which removal of the distributor would be considerably facilitated. With the present design it is possible, after removal of the distributor, to reassemble it with the driving shaft incorrectly positioned, and we feel that it would be advantageous if this assembly was rendered foolproof. Rear Axle. On assembly of the B.II.A. rear brakes to G.CD.462 it was found that the brake shoes fouled on the ends of the expander housing GB.5419, and furthermore that the brake pull-off springs GB.2758 fouled slightly on the oil guard. Will you kindly consider securing the rear spring suspension brackets to the axle tubes by welding and either delete or reduce the present number of taper pins. We are informed by the D.O. that extracting tackle locating on the four holes in the coupling GB.3680 is to be used in lieu of the usual tool which normally locates on the screwed diameter. In our opinion, however, this will not prove so effective as the usual scheme, and we should therefore appreciate your comments in this matter. The hand wheel GB.3269 fitted to the brake adjuster appears to be out of all proportion with the remainder of the brake gear. On the majority of cars fitted with Girling brakes a hexagon is provided on the adjusting shaft, and we feel that this would be preferable to the present scheme. The new RR design takes care of this point. RR/Re Mid-left: CHILDS Mid-left: Now steel shoes. A.F.M X Bottom-left: Spider | ||
