J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. AND PEREGRINE DISTRIBUTOR. We have now had an opportunity of examining a completed sample of the above and we have also had a certain amount of running experience on J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. Our criticisms and suggestions are as follows :- Cam. The cam is arranged to give a short period of make and a long period of break which is exactly opposite to what is required with this type of distributor. We should like a new design of cam as soon as possible on Peregrine we anticipated the engine cutting out at high speeds due to the short period of make. Contact Levers. We suggest that insulating washers underneath the insulating bushes would be an advantage as should these bushes work loose in the lever pressing there is nothing to prevent the lever shorting at the base. This has already occurred on the J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. engine. The rubbing block rivetting is also extremely important as the spring underneath the block is the only H.F. connecting link to the condenser and it is difficult to rivet satisfactorily on grey fibre as it is so mechanically unstable. We consider it important to use bakelite for these blocks on this account, as on Lucas and Delco-Remy. On the J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. engine an ignition failure occurred due to these rubbing blocks being loose. We have not yet had an opportunity of running these distributors on the bench in order to compare the contact point performance but we are obtaining a spare one as soon as possible in order to carry out the requisite tests.
