Martindale}1/KW.12.10.36. Phantom III Brakes. The type of rivets we are at present using to fix the Ferodo brake linings to the brake shoes are giving a considerable amount of trouble. Several cases of failure or partial failure have occurred, and these rivets score the drums badly. We want to change back to copper tinman's headed rivets, of the type we used to use on Phantom III We are running these rivets on 35-EX during its 10,000 miles test: the brake pedal does not appear to be more "spongy" than usual; i.e., the brake shoes expand no less than usual. Will you please produce the necessary drawings so that the change can be effected as soon as possible. Incidentally, the rivetting costs on the front brakes of Phantom II were 5/- less than on Phantom III, so we should expect to save a certain amount of money by this change.
