Martindale x356 BY/Cgh.{W Clough}3/W.10.10.36. Give me a drawing to start a sheet off with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Phantom III : Brake Drums. We are informed by Sales Department that when the front brakes are dismantled to carry out the modification to the brake mechanism, the brake drums show signs of scoring, apparently due to the copper rivets standing flush with the brake linings. These cars have only done a few miles, and Sales Department are consequently somewhat concerned. We understand that you have carried out tests with rivets which are sunk into the linings, similar to what we have on production 25/30 H.P. and Bentley cars, and what we have always had on chassis ever since the days when we used cast iron brake shoes, therefore we shall be glad to know if you are going to standardise the same type for Phantom III, in which case we would get the modification in hand for production immediately.
