Torsion test report for a 20 HP (Goshawk) Crankshaft E.55307.

X5010 To .R. from Ha/Tsn. Re/Tsnl/AM.4.10.29. c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Mor. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. Us. RV. X5010 X4499 TORSION TEST OF 20 H.P. (GOSHAWK) CRANKSHAFT E.55307. This shaft, recently standardised, has a torsional stiffness of 29,370 lbs.ft/radian, in the crankcase with all bearings fitted. It is 13% stiffer than the last shaft tested E.54601, with 1.500 dia pins, and 31% stiffer than the original standard 20 H.P. shaft E.54064. The shaft has the following general particulars:- Crankpins Journals. outer dia. 1.750" 2.125" inner dia. .975" 1.125" Max. width of webs 3.250" Std. nose (unsplined) Std. oilling scheme with oil caps. It has not got the shorter journal bearings. The stiffness per crank is 2.850 x 10^6 lbs.ins/rad against a calculated value using Carter's torsion formula of 3.02 x 10^6. The ratio calc/test stiffness is 1.06, which is closer than we have been getting with Carter's formula recently. Ha/Tsn. | ||
