BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SECRET. ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M18.3.29. 20HP. 51 IN SERIES OA. SIDE WHEEL CARRIER. X5600 As the alternative wheel and luggage carrier on the rear is necessary for these chassis, we have prepared a side wheel carrier with a double arm similar to that used for Phantom, and send herewith N. scheme 2859. We do not think it is permissible to use the bolt shewn on D51697. as R.{Sir Henry Royce} does not now approve of it. We also wish to point out that it will be necessary to extend the plug in the wheel until it is outside the hub shell in the manner shewn on N. scheme 2859., and to use a handle at right angles. We should like you to make these two adaptations on D51697. (See also N. sch 2860.) Unfortunately owing to the position of the door pillar with B. steering it is not possible to utilise any of the bolts of the engine foot, and the carrier will be unsymmetrical with reference to that.
