RE STRAIGHT-SIDED DUNLOP CORD TYRES AND RIMS. [Handwritten] X4050 / X We thank you for yours H2/TB/24.4.22. We have not had a similar experience of this taking place on cars under test fitted with similar type tyres and rims. Also in discussing this matter withe our representatives in America, they are very emphatic on the point that this trouble does not take place if the tyres and rims are properly fitted, but on the contrary they have had experience of tyres coming off the rims entirely when the beaded edge type of rim is used. There is one essential feature, however, in the fitting of the straight-sided rims, which is very important, i.e., that the detachable rim should bed properly in the groove of the fixed rim and, when in position with the tyre, the ends of this detachable rim should not come choc-o-bloc with each other, but there should be a space of at least .1". Is it possible that this fault may have existed with the wheel which has given trouble? Can this point be investigated and reported on, and could you also report on this matter in connection with the remaining three wheels and even the spare wheel? EP.{G.
