X.4342./ Accompanied by Mr. Brock I visited Messrs. C.A.V. on Wednesday, April 27th, and the matters under discussion were then :- (1) C.A.V.Willard batteries. (2) Dynamos and starter motors for both large and small R.R. Cars. Messrs. C.A.V. did not offer to show us round their works except for the Battery Dept which we saw, but they are all the time very emphatic that they will give us any help we require and would be always ready to attend to our requirements. We noticed from an arrangement drawing in the office that they secure their armatures and commutators to the sgaft by knurling. Mr. Brock is of the opinion that this would not be good unless it is possible to get a perfectly straight knurl with a slight taper. It is not thought that the C.A.V. work on motors and dynamos is good. We feel rather that they make the cheapest possible job consistent with reasonably satisfactory operation. X.4341.Motor for 40/50 Chassis. In accordance with your suggestion to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} during his visit, we have had ordered a C.A.V. type SB {Mr Bull/Mr Bannister} starter motor for the 40/50 chassis with a plain shaft extension, so that we can adapt this in our own Expl. Shop to the 40/50 car. It was arranged with the C.A.V. Co. that this motor would be sent up to us straight away. Their quoted quantity price for the starter with plain spindle extension is £7.10.0. Dynamo & Motor for Small Car. Enquiries for both dynamo and motor for Goshawk II had been placed with the C.A.V. Co. and our Design Dept. at Derby are now in correspondence with them in conjection with Contd. | ||
