110 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}10/MH.{M. Huckerby} Messrs. Borg & Beck Co. Ltd., Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa, Warwicks. 12th. November 1937. For the attention of Mr. Armitage. Dear Sirs, Re 10" Clutch Springs. We thank you for your favour of 11th. inst., and we are glad to know that you are in agreement with our notes on the Conference held at Derby on Oct. 29th. With reference to the poundage of the black springs, we agree with your suggestion, namely selecting springs of between 160/165 lbs. We appreciate that this represents working to fairly close limits, and suggest that if difficulty is experienced in keeping to these limits, care should be taken not to exceed 165 on account of pedal pressure. The question as to how much a spring really settles is one on which it is difficult to obtain exact information, but the figure of 160/165 would appear to give ample margin, as our "ideal" working poundage is 150/155 lbs. We are making a rig for testing thrust poundages of a complete assembly, and if it works out as well as we hope it will, we will be pleased to send you particulars of it. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
