PWS 40H CONFIDENTIAL. 6th.December 1938. BY.17/N. Messrs.Park Ward & Co.Ltd., 473, High Road, Willesden, London N.W.10. Dear Sirs, Re: Bentley 9.B.5. We wish to confirm the remarks made to you concerning the above car, during the visit of our Messrs. Draper and Evernden to your Works last week. The main item discussed was the question of cushions and squabs. Cushions. The built in Latex overlay with the rounded corner cushions having the piping about 1" below the top caused the edges of the cushions to be dragged down when one sits in the centre of it. The old design where the piping was at the top is to be preferred, as it gives more nearly the effect obtained by the use of a loose overlay. It was agreed that the cushions on this car should be softened in the centre, and that something should be done to produce the results mentioned above. Front Squab. It was agreed that the trimming of the squab being attached to the side of the bucket seats prevented the sides of the squabs closing round the occupant's back when he leaned back in the seat. We would like to return to the gusset construction which you illustrated. Rear Squab. The top of the rear squab was hard and did not fit round the shoulders and envelop the back of the occupant. It was agreed that this would be improved. Screen Winder. It was agreed that this cannot be moved to the centre of the screen as the handle fouls the steering wheel.
