7th October, 1935.

My dear Grylls,

I must apologize for not replying to your letter of the 12th ultimo, although you will remember that the various points were settled per 'phone etc., and apart from the two special bearings, we have delivered quite a quantity of the normal bearings with the grooves between the outers as requested.

I must say that I cannot understand the function of these grooves, although I agree that they cannot do any harm, and I hope to have an opportunity in the near future of having a talk with you on this subject.

With regard to your letter of the 3rd instant, I am pleased to note that the pilot bearings were satisfactory, and with regard to the clutch throwout, I am enclosing copy of our drawing X.2531, outlining the bearing fitted with the oilite cage, the only difference between this and the standard bearing as now fitted being in the fact that the cage is of oilite and is made as strong as possible.

As you are aware, oilite is a comparatively weak material when drilled etc. as is the case with the bearing now in question, and the only point in doubt is as to whether your components would clear the rivet heads.
