To By/RD. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst. c. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} c. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Smd.{J. Smedley} 6092 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.14/AP.23.6.37 RE. C.A.V. REGULATORS. Replying to your By/RD.2/B.22.6.37., we have discussed this matter recently with Messrs Lucas, pointing out to them that we have never varied our specification appreciably the whole time we have been buying regulators from them, and the last time it was revised it was done in collaboration with their Mr.C.E. Robinson. We can see no reason why all the regulators could not be produced to this specification. We have decided that in view of the early standardisation of the new type of regulator L.R.7.T. it would serve no useful purpose at this stage to carry out any further experimental work on the C.A.V. regulator. They have accepted this decision and have agreed to deliver the regulators to the existing specification until the current order has run out. We should therefore go on rejecting those regulators which do not pass our specification as we do not propose to revise this specification at this stage in view of the hundreds of regulators which have been delivered to these Works satisfactorily passing this specification. With regard to the statement that the CAV. specification does not agree with our own, we wish to point out that we always send them a copy of our specification giving our requirements, so that there is no excuse for them putting out a manufacturing specification which differs from our requirements.
