I am sending you herewith a suggested modification to the design of the Clutch Coupling. I have previously made a similar suggestion to R.{Sir Henry Royce} on one or two occasions, but so far it has been turned down. In making the suggestion originally, it was always my intention to fit the blocks up just as carefully as we do at the moment, so that there would be no question of the clutch coupling being out of centre, and therefore out of balance, and the duty of the springs would be merely to take up any wear which might occur, and therefore by this proposition the amount of out-of-balance likely to develop would be quite small, as it would only be in the neighbourhood of a few thousandths of an inch.
