RE "EAGLE" ELECTRICAL STARTER. X.3328. We send you herewith drawing No. Lec.971 shewing the control mechanism between the main switch and the control shaft, which meshes the starting dog with the crankshaft. It also gives you particulars of the magneto bracket carrying the switch, in which we shew some circular lightening holes which are preferred by Mr. Royce to the long apertures at present in use, since they are more correct in not taking away the metal which should carry the shear and brace the bracket as a box. We should like you to try the holes thus shewn on an actual casting. If they appear too large on the model they can be slightly reduced. The same method of lightening should be applied to the bracket carrying the cantilever tube which supports the starting motor. Referring to the control pulley on the main switch, we think this is in a convenient position for carrying away a cable to the pilot's cabin, since it closely imitates the wire pulleys at present used for controlling the throttle mixture, and ignition. Would you kindly arrange however, to send all the necessary particulars to the Air Board, with a view to determining that the starter is entirely convenient to them as arranged. The hand starter shaft is as illustrated on the drawing, made of weldless steel tube. The starting handle is Contd. | ||
