87305 ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} WN To: Mr. Robotham (Derby) From: Mr. Olley -Cc- Mr. Burton POST RECEIVED STAMP [SEP 15 1930] FABRIC COUPLING - Sec. 6020 Dear Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}: In connection with your depot sheet Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}-167 calling for cantilever pins on the fabric coupling, we of course are strongly in favor of this and have always advocated it. Mr. Burton asked Maintenance whether they thought we should adopt this on PI for replacement (in spite of the greater difficulty of replacement). I attach their reply which in short is that the bulged fabric coupling does not fail even with the old screws (though these break and fall out) and that the rivets certainly give better results. Thought you might want this information - (a) For future use on PII in case, say, of increase of power. (b) For reference in case of excessive replacement on PI in service.
