82637. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}; 21.9.33. TWIN S.U. PETROL PUMP. (1) It has been mentioned to Mr. Elliott that the breather hole in the pump bodies be reduced to 1/16", and he is seeing to this. (2) With regard to the valve seatings in the pump reservoir, at present these are partly alum. and partly brass, the former being part of the casting and the latter the top of the stand pipes inserted in the casting. As alum. is subject to pit-marks and would tend to hold any foreign matter that may collect under the valve, more so than brass, I have suggested to Mr. Elliott that we have an all brass seating by means of inserting stand pipes with flanges at the top, these would also be better for lapping in. (3) The brass disc valves as supplied by S.U. and fitted by production are by no means flat, this is probably due to the stamping out of these discs, but like this it is impossible to get a true seating. Mr. Elliott has been informed of this and is looking into the matter. HE/J.C. Dowering. | ||
