To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X3854 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG23.2.26. WOODHEADS FRONT SPRINGS. X8772 With reference to the special front springs which we recently received from Messrs. Woodheads which have 4 rebound rings above the main plate. We have tested a pair of these on the bumping rig. We are quite satisfied with the life of them although on both springs (one 1100 lbs. and one 1150 lbs.) we have broken the top plate. On the 1150 lbs. spring the fracture was 1.8" to the rear of the centre bolt being just underneath the clip sheath. On the 1100 lbs. spring the fracture was 2" to the rear of the centre bolt. We are sending the two broken leaves to you as we should like them replaced by Messrs. Woodheads so that we can continue our tests on these springs. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
