With reference to the spring load required in the cross steering tubes of the two cars. We find that on the 40/50 HP. we require 1250 lbs. load, on the ball. On the 20 HP. 500 lbs. load. We anticipate that these will be the loads which will actually go on the cars on production and should therefore like you to get out the necessary springs and details for the modifications required to get these springs in. However, until we get the consent of W.W., it would not be advisable to order too much material. If you will let us have the modifications for the incorporation of these springs, we will send them to R.{Sir Henry Royce} for approval.
We suggest that provision should be made for one or two .010" washers to be fitted behind the springs to get exact adjustment of the friction, as there will be variation between different cars.
