re Gearbox with Steering Column. Control. Left Hand Cars. Senior Range.

As you are already aware it has been decided to fit a gearbox with steering column control on the Left Hand Silver Phantom.

The revised gearbox for the Senior Range has been designed in such a way that it can be fitted to either right or left hand cars with either steering column or side lever control mechanism.

Suitable bosses should be on the casing to receive the vacuum servo motor and windows with covers, are provided for both right hand and left hand side lever mechanism.

On PL.77 we show the control gear at the top of the steering column drawn for the left hand car.

Most of this has been detailed with the exception of the casing about which there is a little difficulty which is being straightened out by Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}

On PL.31. 2 sheets, we show the control rods and levers coupling the control tubes at the base of the column to the valve mechanism.

It will be noticed that a special addition of the latest clutch bell housing is required with bearings to accommodate the counter shaft for these controls.

A further important change is that the starter motor is to be placed in a position higher above the centre line of the engine, than on the similar car having left hand side lever gear change. This entails a modification to the shape of the flange on the rear of the crankcase which has been projected on PL.31 but which will have to be fully designed and sent to you.
