COPY. KC.1.7.37. Cruikshank & Fairweather, Chartered Patent Agents, 86, St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Vincent St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Glasgow, C.2. 28th June, 1937. Mr. Park, Messrs. Park Ward & Co. Ltd., 473, High Road, London, N.W. 10. Dear Mr. Park, A client of this office, Dr. Morrison of Glasgow University, called here on 25th inst., and reported that he expected to be invited to take part in the redesigning of certain Rolls-Royce manifolds, the position being that one of his foreign students is in the Research Department of R.R. and has reported to his chief that Dr. Morrison is specially skilled in these matters. As matters stand now, this foreign student expects to proceed, at the expense of R.R., to confer with Dr. Morrison. My point in writing you is that I should like Dr. Morrison to be properly received at R.R. and to meet the proper persons in authority. I am convinced that, if Dr. Morrison is given the proper facilities, he can certainly reduce the loss of engine power, due to improper manifold construction, from 20% down to about 5%. Dr. Morrison is a Doctor of Science and a lecturer in Glasgow University. With all the facilities of the University at his disposal he has spent ten years in experimental research in investigating the behaviour of sound waves etc. in exhaust manifolds. He has learned that every type of engine needs a manifold of its own which is unrelated to the manifold of any other engine. I think that, if you can contribute towards the establishment of effective technical relationship between Dr. Morrison and the Directors of R.R., you will be doing a service to R.R. and earning credit for yourself. Yours very truly, (Sgd.) Douglas Fairweather. | ||
