To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. "N". During Hancock's recent visit to Cricklewood he found a 25 HP. car there, the owner of which had repeatedly complained about shock absorber knocks, and when Hancock had done all that he knew to these shock absorbers with the exception of changing the inner links they were still noisy though he could feel little or no slack at the end of the lever. We consider that such a car as this would be a remarkable opportunity for us to find out whether the new split piston dampers we are putting into production would permanently overcome the trouble of noise on a customers car that was particularly susceptible to the amplification of knocks. We therefore propose if you agree, to send a set of split piston shock absorbers to Cricklewood for Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} to use at his discretion on such a car. We emphasise the necessity of following up shock absorber noises at Cricklewood because for the past three months we have been trying to get hold of customers' noisy shock absorbers from our own Repair Dept. here and we have only had one sample submitted to us, which both Mr. Brock and the Repair Dept. themselves admitted was such a border line case and it was most difficult to detect whether the shock absorbers were noisy or not.
