Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}8/AD4.11.31. X7520. We note that in your recent memo ref. Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}9/K131.10.31. you have established a number of shock absorber loads for various types of springs with which you have been able to satisfy the customer. We think that when the shock absorbers are manufactured on production it should be possible to take advantage of the knowledge you have gained. Experimentally, we can only establish one setting which appears to us to be a good compromise and it is not very satisfactory to load all the shock absorbers to this figure if, as your experience shows, the majority of the dampers may have to be altered to suit the average customer. We should therefore be glad if you would let us have your views as to what are the settings which most frequently satisfy the customer with (1) Standard springs. (2) Low rating springs. In order that we may consider asking production to work to these figures on new shock absorbers they build. You already have our personal recommendations for loads.
