X4426 Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /C4/H. 14. 8. 24. 40/50 HP. CHASSIS. HARTFORD SHOCK ABSORBERS. We send you herewith a set of Duplex Model Hartford Shock Absorbers, and should be glad if you would arrange for these to be tested out as quickly as possible so that a decision can be arrived at in regard to fitting this type of shock absorber to chassis to be used in foreign countries. As previously pointed out, it is necessary to come to a definite decision in this matter as customers are complaining about the present type and several refuse to have the latter fitted and insist on having the Duplex model. We informed the makers of the shock absorbers that in our opinion the trunnion pins should be increased in size and they inform us that they have not found it necessary to do this on Duplex Model even when used at considerable pressures, and that they have had no complaints whatever about the wear of the bushes on other makes of cars, Hispano Suiza, Voisin, Bentley, etc. on which this model is fitted as a standard part of the equipment. They point out, however, that they are always willing to meet our requirements and would be prepared to produce shock absorbers for us specially with increased universal bearing pins and bushes. They are looking into the question of cost, but in the meantime they consider that we might test out the standard Duplex model as they are of the opinion that there will be no more wear on these than on the standard one.
