2nd May, 1935.

Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd.,
Great King Street,
Birmingham, 19.

Gentlemen,

Headlights.

We are in receipt of your letter, X/LGT9, of the 30th ult.

From the list you give, it would seem that you did not commence deliveries of P.100 headlamps with the modified dipping mechanism until the 8th ult., and that since that date only nine and a half pairs have been send to London and most of these were not sent to us.

As we endeavoured to impress upon Mr. Thacker when he called here, we are most concerned at the possibility of failure with headlamps issued before the modifications were standardised, a large number of which are on Bentley chassis in the hands of coachbuilders in London and elsewhere.

The consequences of a failure might be so serious that our feeling is that no further lamps issued before the adoption of the modifications should get into the hands of the public, and we shall therefore be glad if you will take steps to see that no further delay occurs in concluding the arrangements for the replacement of these headlamps of obsolete pattern.

Yours faithfully,
for Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
